Hello media.

She ended by plagiarizing Edwards. Let's see if anyone notices.

I was really listening for him to make me feel better about having to vote for him in the fall. He failed.

Eclipse.

I'm really not prepared for astro-photography, but I figured I'd give it a shot, so to speak. It's really hard to take precise, sharp pictures of a dark, moving object, thousands of miles away. Or at least too hard for me.

Use it or lose it.

You can go buy a couple of guns, legally, and start shooting random people in a classroom. Or a mall. Or from your roof. You can do that. You might have to fill out a questionnaire. Wait out a background check. Even have to wait a few days. But you can do it. There's no way to stop you. You would have to get rid of guns. We would have to just get rid of them all. But we have a right to protect ourselves. With a gun. If only more of us took advantage of that right, then shootings wouldn't happen. Or maybe the shootings just wouldn't go on as long. It's all or nothing. Take your pick.

And another thing...

I think I can finally say for sure that I am against professional sports. The top of the hour, headline news story on the radio right now is performance enhancing drug congressional hearings. Am I paying for this crap with my taxes? Between this waste of time, and Michael Vick, the final nails in the coffin have been hammered home. Billions of dollars can be spent in better ways. Money lost giving developers tax breaks to level neighborhoods and build stadiums is never recouped. Giving kids the false hope of making the big leagues results in undereducated egomaniacs. I'm all for sports in schools, and believe it to be a great way to teach teamwork and sportsmanship that can help off the field in the real world. (I played three sports a year through junior high and high school.) But play because it's fun. Play because it's good for you. How many would play without the chance of a multi-million dollar contract?

Learned response.

Those snow plows sure are loud at 3am.
It's the sound that evokes feelings of anticipation
and hope that school will be canceled.
Feelings that should stop coming at my age,
but like a bell at dinner time,
I'll have those thoughts whether there's food or not.

You're gonna need a bigger boat.

It's finally snowing in NYC. It'll turn to rain for a few days and make a big mess, but it was fun to walk around for a few minutes today while taking packages to the post office. It's not worth the time and effort to sell small things on ebay. I guess I had to prove that to myself.
I worked with a TV crew the other day, and after the shoot, talked turned to politics. One of them mentioned that some racist would end up shooting Obama, and a guy responded that that's why we need him in there, to change people's minds. I had to remind him, okay, not remind since he was too young to know what I was talking about, of the Happy Days episode when Richie has a party, but no one comes because the new drummer for the band is "colored." Even though The Fonz goes down to Arnold's and tells everyone to come, all the parents apparently forbid the kids from going. I remember Richie saying something like, "if I want to have a colored guy at my party, I'm gonna have a colored guy at my party!" When Fonzie can't understand why nobody came despite demanding everyone show up, Mr. Cunningham puts his arm around the Fonz and tells him that prejudice has been around a lot longer than "cool." I'm not sure if it was intended, but the message I came away with was that racist fucks are always going to be racist fucks, and no matter how many things you can fix with your coolness, you can't change prejudice. But the band played, and they had their little party anyway, just the handful of them.

Roy Scheider died a few days ago. Jaws is still one of my favorite movies. As Zach just posted, "you're in a bigger boat now, Roy"

Yep. It's a sunset.

That's how bored I am today. Maybe I'll go to work early.
